Ministerial subcommittee to meet trade union leaders tomorrow to address strikes

Sep 29, 2019

Colombo (Sri Lanka) Sept 29: The ministerial subcommittee appointed to look into the several strike actions launched by trade unions has decided to hold a special discussion on Monday with the striking unions including the railway trade unions.
Minister Abeysinghe said the subcommittee plans to have separate discussions with the trade unions engaged in strikes in different sectors.
Ministers Mangala Samaraweera, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Vajira Abeywardena and Rajitha Senaratne are also included in the Cabinet sub-committee.
The decision was taken following a special discussion held between railway trade unions and Acting Minister of Transport Ashok Abeysinghe on the ongoing railway strike.
Railways trade unions launched a strike from midnight last Wednesday (25) based on several issues including salary disparities. Railway employees including station masters, controllers, guards and engine drivers are participating in the strike.
Minister Abeysinghe earlier said it is clear that political motives are behind the strike and stern action will be taken if the strike is not ended by Monday
