Colombo (Sri Lanka), Jan 18: President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has emphasized the importance of integrating data and information of all government institutions through a central data network in order to eliminate the unnecessary delays, corruption, fraud and duplication.
During a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, the President has instructed the officials in the information and communication sector to take measures immediately to build a mechanism to provide relevant services through the internet with a simple approval system.
This mechanism is expected to ease the workload and reduce the red tape in the state service.
The President pointed out that storing all data in a single system will expedite the process. The main objective of the initiative is to provide the opportunity to access services in different sectors through automation.
The Information Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) will design a special network in this regard. Under the new system many services including, national identity cards, driving license, passport, birth certificate, death certificates, and deed registration can be done without any delays.
The President noted that the collection of data will be instrumental in analyzing them accurately in the process of making key decisions that affect the country.
Meanwhile, the general public can obtain many information with regard to the state service through the hotline 1919.
