Sri Lanka presidential election will cost over Rs. 4.5 billion, record 23 candidates place deposits

Colombo (Sri Lanka) Oct 05: Sri Lanka's upcoming Presidential election will cost over Rs. 4.5 billion, the Election Commission says. Cost will increase as the number of candidates increases, according to the Election Commission.
As of now, record 23 candidates representing political parties and independent groups have placed cash deposits for the election which will be held on 16 November.
It is said that this is the largest number of presidential candidates who have deposited money in the history
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member parliamentarian Chamal Rajapaksa, the older brother of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka Freedom Party parliamentarian Kumara Welgama have submitted cash deposits as independent candidates.
