Seoul [South Korea], September 19: A separator that can solve the reduction in capacity and internal short circuits issues of lithium-sulfur batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs) and mobile devices has been developed.
According to Chonbuk National University on the 16th, Dr. Doan ThiLuuLuyen of the Department of Bio-Nano Convergence Engineering published a paper in the atest online edition of global journal "Applied Catalysis B: Environmental."
Dr. LuuLuyen developed a new separator in three-dimensional shape by coating the surface of the separator material with polystyrene microspheres, graphene, and catalyst to solve separator issues of lithium-sulfur batteries.
She explained that the new separator effectively limits the spread of polysulfide and suppresses short circuits, improving battery capacity, life, and stability.
Dr. LuuLuyen said, "We will continue to develop separator for a more stable, high-capacity lithium-sulfur batteries."
