Kiev [Ukraine], October 11: At least 20 people were killed in a fresh wave of Russian airstrikes in south-eastern Ukraine, with multiple attacks on the city of Zaporizhzhya, officials said on Saturday.
The dead include three children, while 18 more people were injured, the military governor of the Zaporizhzhya region, Mykhailo Semikin, wrote on Telegram.
"At night, 13 of our regions were under attack. There is destruction of residential buildings, infrastructure, railways," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram on Saturday.
Search and rescue operations are ongoing. Information regarding a further 12 people who may have been at the scene is still being verified, he said.
"This night was another confirmation that Russia perceives any easing of pressure as a signal that it is possible to fight further," he said, referring to US President Donald Trump's announcement on Friday that Russia has agreed to supply diesel fuel to US and global markets. Ukrainian attacks on the Rostov region In turn, Ukraine targeted the southern Russian region of Rostov overnight in counter-attacks with drones. In an area where an oil processing company is located, several fires were visible on NASA's FIRMS website, which tracks hotspots globally.
Rostov regional Governor Yury Slyusar wrote on Telegram about fires and damage to residential buildings resulting from Ukrainian attacks.
A railway bridge was damaged. According to his post, six people required medical assistance.
Two ships were reportedly damaged in the city of Azov during the Ukrainian attack, while authorities said they intercepted more than 100 drones over the Rostov region as a whole.
Moscow: Over 500 drones intercepted The Ministry of Defence in Moscow reported that it repelled 560 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian territories and the annexed Crimean Peninsula.
Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine for more than four and a half years. As part of its defensive operations, Kiev repeatedly targets objectives deep inside Russia, focusing particularly on the oil industry, which contributes huge funds to Russia's war chest.
Power outages in Kiev Russia also targeted the Ukrainian capital Kiev in a fresh attack with drones and ballistic missiles on Saturday, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, with a restaurant among the targets hit.
Six people were injured, five of whom were taken to the hospital, the mayor wrote on Telegram. Because an energy facility was damaged, there are also problems with the water supply, he added.
Zelensky accused the Russian leadership of terror against the civilian population.
"They are banking on a continuation of the war, terror against ordinary people, and the destruction of infrastructure," he wrote on social media.
The state power grid operator Ukrenergo said a large portion of consumers in the Ukrainian capital and its surrounding area were without electricity as a result of the latest Russian attacks.
The power utility DTEK also announced large-scale emergency shutdowns.
Russia's Defence Ministry claimed to have struck a data centre in Kiev that it said was used by the Ukrainian military, according to Russia's state news agency TASS.
Ukrainian authorities did not comment on the claim, which could not be independently verified.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for more than four and a half years.
