Sofia [Bulgaria], August 5: Bulgarian authorities have uncovered an illegal marijuana production greenhouse during a fire at a roadside building and arrested one suspect, the Prosecutor's Office said Monday.
The facility, housed in a two-story building near the town of Haskovo in southeastern Bulgaria, was discovered Sunday morning after witnesses reported a fire, prompting emergency services to respond, the office said in a statement.
Firefighters found a 57-year-old man inside, trying to put out the flames. He was arrested at the scene.
While battling the fire, firefighters discovered that the building had been operating as a clandestine marijuana greenhouse, the statement said.
Police later seized a total of 1,309 marijuana plants, ranging in height from 40 cm to 100 cm, spread across the first and second floors.
Dried marijuana weighing 10.328 kg was also confiscated from the site.
