Mar 22, 2026
Tehran [Iran], March 22: Iran's president has said the BRICS alliance, which India currently chairs, should "play an independent role in halting aggressions against Iran".
This came when Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian and India's PM Narendra Modi spoke over the phone about the latest regional developments, according to Iran's embassy in New Delhi. Pezeshkian called the US and Israel's attacks on Iran "profoundly inhumane and unethical".
He also pushed back on US accusations that Iran has served as a source of regional instability, instead claiming Israel is responsible for "fuelling unrest and conflict". Pezeshkian also proposed establishing a regional security framework made up of West Asian countries " aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the region.
