Taipei [Taiwan], September 25: Taiwan's Fire Department said on September 24 that at least 15 people were killed and 17 others were missing in flash floods caused by Ma Tai'an natural dam reservoir in Hualien County overflowing and pouring into Guangfu Township the day before.
According to Reuters , there was previously information that 14 people were killed and 152 people were missing, but the figures have been adjusted. On September 24, Taiwan's Chief Executive Officer, Zhuo Wing-tai, directed an investigation into errors in the evacuation order in Hualien County related to the dam overflow incident. On the same day, according to CNA, authorities called on residents in Guangfu to stop cleaning and evacuate to the nearby town of Ruihui to avoid the risk of Ma Tai'an Lake overflowing again due to heavy rain.
In Hong Kong , all landings and takeoffs have been cancelled since the evening of September 23, affecting about 140,000 passengers. According to the South China Morning Post , there were 82 cases of injuries requiring medical treatment due to the impact of the storm. Hong Kong recorded at least 698 cases of fallen trees, one case of landslide and 16 cases of flooding due to the impact of the storm, in addition to 869 people who sought refuge at 50 temporary shelters. Before the storm approached, Hong Kong evacuated nearly 80% of the aircraft at four major airports to mainland China and other places.
