Ukraine denies undertaking new commitments under grain agreement

Nov 04, 2022

Kiev [Ukraine], November 4: Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said Thursday that the country keeps its commitment not to use the grain corridor for military purposes and has not made any new commitments under the grain deal as part of the security guarantees.
"Our country did not take on any new obligations that would go beyond those already existing in the grain agreement," Nikolenko said on Facebook.
The spokesman added that Kiev did not use and plan to use the humanitarian corridors established for the export of Ukrainian grain for military purposes, and strictly adheres to the provisions of the UN-brokered grain deal.
Russia and Ukraine separately signed a document in Istanbul in July with Türkiye and the United Nations on grain and fertilizer exports from Ukraine and Russia to ensure supplies to global markets amid the two countries' conflict.
Russia announced on Saturday the immediate and indefinite suspension of its implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, accusing Ukraine of launching drone attacks against its Black Sea Fleet's ships and infrastructure at the naval base in Sevastopol.
Five days later, the country said it resumed the participation in the grain deal after security guarantees were received from Ukraine under the mediation of Türkiye and the UN.
